In examining my idle valve I came across a couple of questions. What is the
hose that comes out of the top of the idle valve? It seems to go over and split off, one end goes to the valve cover and the other end goes to the air filter housing. My hose does not fit well and it is cracked on the end connected to the valve cover. Would this affect the idle valve function? There is also some oil around the hose fitting at the valve cover. What is this hose? Chris Prestridge 1988 190E 2.3 |
My W124 230TE has the same motor and the same problem.
I assume the oil is a bit of blowby. The hose on my engine appears to have shrunk a bit as it doesn't quite reach all 3 attachment points. I doubt it would effect idle quality. How rough is your idle ? Doug MCcUTCHAN 1987 w124 230te 1983 w126 280se |
I have just a minor idle problem. It is the problem that I am having with the car dying in stop and go traffic. If I come to a stop the idle will drop too low and the car dies. It is getting worse. It was suggested to me that it was the idle valve. When I checked the idle valve, I noticed that this hose was coming from the top of the idle valve. I was wondering if this hose being split and not fitting properly would affect the function of the idle valve.

Yes any split or cracks in the hoses can cause idle deviation. I do recommend that you replace all of the related hoses when dealing with any air related system. If you need the parts, we sell them!
