Whats all this smoke?
Hitting the Highway after quite a bit of up hill driving, doing 110km/h i noticed smoke coming from UNDER the car not directly from the motor. This shocked me so I pulled over. The smell was kind of like burnt rubber. There was no loss of engine power and no weird sounds. To this day I am puzzeled. Any suggestions?

Transmission leaking and hitting the exhaust?

Happened to me a few weeks ago.
Cruising at (too much) MPH on a very hot day, a cloud of white smoke appeared in my rear view mirror. it was not a cloud, it was a storm warning. Slowed down, way down, got the next exit, crawler to the nearest service station. Transmission cover gasket bolts worked themselves loose (still can't figure how this can happen.) Oil was getting out of the transmission between the gasket and the oil pan and right on the exhaust system. Tighten everything up, check oil level (low by 1/2 quart), back on the road No more white cloud. JackD |

Ok I will get someone to check it out on Monday...
Is this a recurring thing? |

Possibly the transmission vacum modulator? A "bad" one can produce lotsa' white smoke!

I went today and brought the car to a licenced Mercedes service shop and they said there was absoloutly nothing wrong with the car. Not one leak anywhere to be found. Hmm, cant argue with the experts can u
