Inside review mirror
 

I need help repairing/removing my inside review mirror on a 1991 SL.
Somehow the thing is loose! It moves good by hand and by the motor but it has 'play' in it. Lots of play. If I could just figure out how to remove the molding (upper) I could get at the spindle that attaches it to the car. I guess if I knew how to get at the light bulbs that might even help. I don't want to break any little plastic clips. Seems that who ever repaired anything on the car before did just that.

The mirror snaps into place(spring loaded).

To remove (inside) rear view mirror:
Place fingers as close as possibe to the center shaft, pulling down AND slightly towards the winshield, be prepared to ONLY pull 2 to 3 inches away! There is more room but being braced to pull only this distance is to prevent ripping the wires out! The wires unplug right at the mirror, then the mirror is free. There is a nut on the end of the spindle which holds the mirror and shaft to the metal plate. This nut was loose.
