Code P1137 on 96 C280

Hi Group,

96 C280 check engine light just came on and I pulled the code P1137 with the scanner. This code appears to be specific to Mercedes. What is the definition for the code and any common failures that would cause this code.

Many thanks

My Ref says that code -

P1137
is
Oxygen Sensor Lean *codes* A D

A= Bank A of the engine
D= Downstream of the Catalytic Converter

Thanks Mike

I need a better understanding of what is the A bank and is this code particular to the secondary oxygen sensor installed after the cat.

Thanks

Bank A Etc.

Bank A is the whole engine in your case.

Only a bank B on V8 & V12 engines.

Living in UK I am not certain that Exhausts and Cats are the same as over here but am fairly sure that it applies to the secondary oxygen sensor installed after the cat.

Hope this helps.

Regards

Mike

Being that you are running lean this basically means not enough fuel to use up the O2.

Are you getting any missing under accelleration ?
Changed your Fuel Filters lately ?
I believe that the Gas Tank cap not sealing properly can cause Lean Running.

Afraid I am a Diesel man myself and have been for some years.

Also I tend to put my car into local MB Shop for all work, though I like to discuss technical matters with them.

This code is for a "short circuit" in the rear 02 sensor. Replacing the sensor and clearing the code should take care of the problem.

Thanks,

Is this short in the warmup circuit or the lambda sensor circuit. Will this short damage the car if I continue to drive it for 2 days.

The short is probably in the sensor itself. Its unlikley that it will do any damage to drive for a couple of days ,but its hard to say for sure.

Thanks for the info. Mostly I see Upstream and Downstream, which one is rear. My 95 S-320 code is P1137. I can drive around months and no check engine light but a 2 hr trip, no light till I fire it up to drive back and shortly it goes on. Both O2 sensors replaced last summer. Thanks Again, Steve
