Error 26, Upshift Delay Switch, 94 E320
 

Hi guys,
I have recently had the Check Engine Light on my 94 E320 turn on. After a brief panic I consulted this board and discovered the LED and tracked down the problem itself -- Error Code 26: Upshift Delay Switch open or shorted.

My question is this: how much should I expect a repair of this problem to cost me in terms of both parts and labor, and is it really a serious problem...As in, can it wait to be fixed, or should I get it taken care of right away?

This seems to be a very common fault code on 93-95 W124's with the M104 engine.

The upshift delay valve is on the firewall behind the master cylinder. It has a black electrical wire and a green vacuum line going to it that connects to the transmission.

The part is cheap, less than $30, if I remember correctly.

You can replace the part and make sure the vacuum line isn't plugged up.

would you recommend Fast Lane as the best place to order it?

Also, I am not particularly mechanically knowledgable...is this something I could fix myself, or should I take the part to the mechanic and have him do it?

Do you think there might be any chance that the part is good but the vacuum line is clogged?

Essentially, I'm asking if there is a way I can easily clean the line so that I can reset the computer and see if the light comes back on.

Yes, you can do it. I thought my vacuum line was plugged, cleaned it out, reinstalled it, but a week later, the CE light came on again, so I went ahead and replaced the part.

I think Arthur Dalton posted that the part was updated, anyway.

Fastlane is a great place to buy the part.

Whether you or your mechanic does it, it shouldn't take less than 30 minutes, so it's not an expensive job.
