Power window problem on E320
My right rear power window failed this morning. The window went down part way and stopped. I heard gears grinding, it sounds bad. I think the gears are powder now.
I looked at the door strap removal procedure in the DIY section and am wondering if my door comes apart in a similar way. I don't remember if I have side airbags back there, but are there any tricks to removing the panel and getting to the motor and gears? I think the motor is fine, are replacement gears available? I'm embarrassed to ask this: where is my battery located? I don't like prying on things without knowing what I'm doing. Thanks for your help. 98' E320 4Matic |
Your battery is under the back seat on the right side. About the window not working, if you heard a grinding type noise you will need a new window regulator. The rear window regulators are of the cable type and the motor is part of the regulator.

Thanks,
I've checked Fastlane and Benz-Bin, but neither carries these. Is this a dealer only part? Any other suggestions for sources for this part? How abour the R&R of this part. Are there any things to watch for when removing the door panels? |
just replaced my window regulator today.
i had the same problem with my 96e320. the right rear window was making grinding sound when i try to make it go up / down. window does not move. but i can push it up and down manually. I followed some of the instructions from this site and got it fix today. Parts you will need are one heavy duty rivet tool, got mine from harbor tool frieght ($13 on sale), one window regulator, 4 rivets, and a drill. Just do a search on this site "window regulator", u will find all the information you need.
