S500 Door Closers Not closing drivers door??

My 94' S500 drivers door closer stops working. To make it start working again, I have to remove the #9 fuse & re-install then it works for a while and quits again. The trunk does the same thing. What is the cause of this?

If it happens once, it could have been something stuck in the door.

If it happens often, then you need a new vacuum pump. There is some sort of lock-out that disables the pump if it hasn't seen the microswitch in a certain amount of time.

This is a common problem with these cars. Like I saw in a previous post, keep following the Reset procedure until it annoys the heck out of you, then its time to replace the pump.

BTW, mine's been doing the same thing for some time. Haven't broken down to get a new pump yet...mucho $$$ up here in Canada.

This is the safety shut-off feature. It's not neccesarily a bad pump. It can also be a vacuum leak in the system which is no longer working.

Things to check.

vacum leaks, actuator, lines etc.
micro switchs in latch assembly, they will stick and fail to signal the pump that the door is now shut.
trunk latch, loose latchs will allow the trunk assist to keep pulling on it, thereby shutting the pump down.
shutting the door on the seatbelt is a surefire way to shut the pump down too.

I've replaced several latchs in these for this problem, make sure the l/f is the only door shutting down.

S500 DOOR CLOSERS NOT CLOSING???

Thanks for the reply. Let me tell you a couple of more things about this problem. BOTH FRONT doors are doing the same thing. The rear doors do not seem to have a problem. I can pull the fuse as a reset, and all might be fine for another 2-3 closings. Now, if the drivers door fails to close, that does not meen the right door is not closing. Sometimes it might take it longer to stop working??? Many have said it's the vaccumn pump under the rear seat because it operates all four doors each by themselves and the two front doors are used the most so that circut fails first? Does this same pump operate the trunk? Sometimes it's fails to pull down and I reset by pulling the fuse, then it's fine for a while??? If it is the vaccumn pump, are they expensive and can I install it myself?

Thanks again,
Warren

The pump under the rear seat is the central locking pump. The pump for closing assist is located in the trunk on the leftside just forward of the front trim panel. The most common problrm with this system is the pump ,but it is possible it could be a bad door latch element or micro switch. The only way to know for sure is to test the pressure and electrical portions of the system.

I had my right rear door apart to re-install the door handle that fell off due to the mounting screw backing off. None of the door closure have worked ever since. The trunk closure still works. Is it possible that I inadvertantly disconnected something?
