I'm thinking about buying a new (or slightly used) w140 Merc. I'm only interested in the V8's and V12's for a car this size. I'm not opposed to checking out the coupes either. Is there anything specific I should avoid or look for?

Also, in the case of a new car that the factory couldn't sell, what kind of price reduction should I be asking for? I understand that the new S-Class is a whole lot cheaper than the 140's were during their hey day...

Just be sure the auto has not been in a wreck of any kind if used. NO PAINTWORK. Also be sure the service books are perfect.
I don't know that much about numbers, but if you want a great or near perfect auto, I can connect you to a person that I trust with these type of transacions and I have never been let down by him! PS he located LEE's 500e for him. (Lee is a partner on MercedesShop.com)

I'll second Benzmac's recommendation. He found one of only approx 600 500E's just the way I wanted it. (colors, condition, etc) in less than a month and even made pricepoint. He is accomidating, fair, and quite patient. (just ask about the horror stories of selling the 400E!) If you want to custom order a pre-owned car he is hard to beat.

Oh, BTW W140 evaporator cores have been known to be problematic. Its a 4-figure fix...

Hope this helps...Lee
