TRhe new head gasket (from Mercedes dealer, not the corner store) is of a new design and should last longer than the original.
This should be the last head gasket you'll ever buy for this car.

I plan to renew the head gasket on my E320 and I'm already buying parts for this project. I'd like to replace the valve guides but I don't know how many I needed. Also, there are two sets of dimemsions for valve guides in Fastlane. exhaust 12.5 mmm;std 7.0 mm id and 12.7 mm; 7.00 mm id. Could someone tell me which one is right for my car? I have a 1994 E320 sedan.
Another question, do I need to remove the bottom front cover of the timing chain?

You need one guide per valve (12 in your case). You'll also need valve seals.
Almost impossible to tell which one you'll need (standard or oversize) until the head is disassembled.
You doN,t need to remove the lower part of the front engine cover to do the job.

Its all back together. got the new cap and rotor in and started it up without any hesitation.

a few things, noted that the tensioner is broken. The bold in the back that is counter screwed is borken were it attaches to the swing arm thing.. oh well, no big deal I will have to buy a new on . Belt does not squeak but it is loose.

Paul, I think you said that it ran hotter after the head gasket change.. mine is just above the 80 and it is 75 degrees and sunny here does this sound ok?
