Unhappy 1973 450 SEL High Fuel Consuption

Hey all~

I figure I get between 7.5 to 9 MPG and I was wondering what do I need to check to reduce this or is it something that I should expect with that year and model.

Can it be the fuel filter? Can it be the injectors? Is it something with timing and mixture adjustment?

Ideas?

FUEL mixture is the place to start!! This car should get 12-15 mpg.
ALSO when was the last time that you had the valves adjusted?? Supposed to be done EVERY 10K miles!
