Interesting to hear.
Of course, the E500 is only an E500 by name - the real descendant of the 500E/E500 is/will be the new E55 AMG, we'll have to wait a while for that.

Just an idle question.
Is it possible that the E500 is detuned for more mass consumption? I agree about the E55 version. Somewhat similarly, I know someone who is now kicking himself regularly for not being patient enough to wait the year it took to get a BMW M5. Because he was impatient, he bought a 540i with as many bells and whistles as he could get - a year later, he has conceded that it clearly isn't an M5. The M version cost only $8000 more than he spent on his 540.

Tell your friend he can console himself somewhat, as originally BMW said they would not build an M5, as the 540i with a manual box was enough.
But, car manuf.s always say they won't build this, won't import that, but 90% of the time they do it anyway, 2 years later. bye
