Traitor !!!
Now I've done it, sold the W140 S500 for a 1990 BMW 735iL, It was about 1/3 the price with less maintenance worries. The merc had to go before the summer as the AC hasn't worked for a while and I know this is a big repair.

Hmmmm I have a 90 735i too and find it to be a fairly high maint. vehicle. I have had 4 other bimmers but the e-32 is the most complicated. I just bought a 500 sel and have been very pleased with it so far. Curious about the price you paid for the bimmer as I will be listing mine for sale soon. If you want drop me an e-mail and I will tell you what I know on the bimmer to watch for etc.. Regards Scooter

me too
Ive owned a 1990 735i for three years, and love it. Last year I replaced the head gasket at 195k (don't let the temp get near the red!) but it needed a new cam anyway. Last year we bought a 94 E320 wagon, for the third seat, and also love it--it seems faster than the BMW. The benz engine seems harder to work on as the dohc setup makes things more inaccessable; but thanks to this forum I'm getting there. With nearly twice the miles my 735 steers better than the E320--so that is my next project (after the wiring harness?) Without this forum (and roadfly.com) either car would be totally out of the question for me to own.
