Stumbled Across a Nearly New 1972 280SEL 4.5
Just in case anyone is interested, a guy I used to work with called me today and told me his parent's 1972 280SEL 4.5 is for sale. I went out to look it over, not because I need another car, but just to have an excuse to take a drive into the countryside along the Connecticut River on a sunny day.
Well, he may put the car up on the site, as I explained he might find a good home for it here. And I am aware it is more appropriate that this post be on the "cars for sale board" but I am not selling and I have seen requests for these cars here before. In any case, the car has just under 70,000 miles and some very minor cosmetic defects, like a little rust spot on one door and some small dings on the hood. Chrome and the interior are near perfect. I did not drive it as I am not in the market, but the engine was spotless, no leaks. Owner is a Merchant Marine Academy grad and a fanatic about taking care of machines. Burns no oil per owner, and has been in heated garages all its life. He drives it around regularly so it has not been sitting unused the entire time. The car is deep green, with a tan interior. No interior defects noted. I did not talk price but he has done some research and knows as a collector car this could be worth quite a bit. He is not aiming to put it in perfect condition or anything, so he is not expecting the concourse condition pricing. If someone is interested and he does not post the car on the for sale board, email me and I will get you in touch with him. Jim |
