I have a 92 190E2.6 with 78k miles. I am about to replace the plug wires due to age cracking. I was wondering what the life span of the cap and rotor are, and should they be changed also.
Thanks |

It is a good idea to replace the cap and rotor when they look bad from the inside. Mercedes wires are solid core and RARLEY need to be replaced. The only thing that goes bad usually is the resistor tips and they can be screwed off and on. I have only seen 4 or 5 Mercedes that truly needed wires unless they had been eaten at by rodents.

The wires look fine, it is the ends that are cracking. I will pull the cap and rotor to get an idea on their condition.

The average life for a cap and rotor are about 60K. A quick check will usually turn up problems. Check for carbon tracking on the cap and check to see if either the cap or rotor have any signs of cracks or eroded contacts.
