Can I replace my Distr. Vaccum advance?

I am going through my 450Sl replacing parts like crazy due to the thing not being driven much by the previous owner. The vaccum port on the side closest to the distributor holds vac. but the other port doesn't. Is there a replacement diapragm? Also the ignition switchover valve on the fire wall isn't cutting off the vaccum when the AC is switched on or the temp guage wire is grounded. Can I get these parts? Also, could this be causing my awful hesitation? the car runs great above 35 mph getting there is tough.

thanks,
jmdunn

I removed my vacuum advance/retard thing from the distributor today to verify that the arm that moves the timing was moving under vaccum pressure and on the #1 hose(see attached pic) and it moved. On the #2 hose there was no movement with vaccum applied. Next I held vaccum on #1 and appled vaccum to #2 and slight movement occured but barely noticeable and din't hol the position for more than 1/2 of a second. Do I need to replace this or is this normal. IF so is there a part # on fastlane?

Thanks,
Jmdunn

To get the right one, it will take the engine number.

steve,
I can't find the part on fastlane using that number or using the online catalog. Any other sources other than the dealer which is an hour drive to Memphis. One more question, can I reinstall the broken one until I get a new one and make my car driveable by advancing the timing 10-15 degrees to make up for the non functioning advance side of the vacuum diapragm? Also, could you explain how this thing works when full throttle is applied. Is it like older distributors that advance by centrical action?

Many thanks again,
jmdunn

I checked with my dealer. There are parts in a Ca. depot. It lists for $92. Does partsshop do special orders?
