560SEC front bumper on a W126 sedan
 

Is the 86-91 560SEC front bumper a direct replacement on a 86-91 W126 Sedan, or does it not fit without modification?

Kind of.....

All you need is the bumper cover, lights, & brackets.
You must use your existing chrome trim though.

I did a write-up on this site somewhere. All the pic's are broken links. I'll try to get them hooked back up later today and post the link to the write-up.

420, Thanks for the great info. I have a few more questions for you. What switch are you using to turn on the bumper lights? What needs to be done to remove the bumper and support? Do you know of a good source for a used SEC bumper cover?

Lights: I have the SEC fogs wired to activate with the existing foglight switch and I had the headlight integrated fogs wired to active with the high-beams. I had this done by my mechanic so I can't help out there.

To remove the bumper: remove the 6 large bolts where the bumper shock meets the cars frame....the bumper assembly will pull right out. Then, rest the bumper on it's top and remove all the small bolts (about a dozen or so)...... Note, the cover, support and chrome are all tied in together so every last bolt has to be removed to get it apart.

I can't remember exactly where I got the cover......It was a junk yard in California......bought it online. They aren't cheap. I paid $400. Note, an new cover lists for $800.

why could you not just buy the light assembly cut the bottom grill to fit the lights and plastic weld in the upright plastic pieces?

I supose that could be done....I also briefly thought about doing something like that, but i'm not a good craftsman when it come to cutting/working plastic.
I don't think one could get a factory fit & finish doing it that way either IMO.

420, How hard is it to remove the bumper and bumper support? ANy special tools needed?

It's not difficult. All you'll need are regular hand tools to remove/ disassemble the bumper. Spend some time under the car and you'll see what you need to do.

both your cars are super.

1 more thing. do you think you could get an 18 in wheel/tire on your 420 or is the 17/7.5 the safe way to keep from rubbing?
