Hi, I have been advised by dealer that ball joints/ struts and rear struts need replacement on my 88 300TE wagon. Cost is an issue so I pondering doing the work myself.
Firstly, what signs other than leaking oil do I seek to decipher that a strut (sepecially the rear hydros) need replacement ? Secondly, how safe is it working with MB spring compressors (have not done this before but do have some mechanical exp) ? Thirdly, how complex a job is it to replace ball joint ? My MBNA manual does not seem to outline the procedure for this ? Also, how long would it take the shop to replace these ? Many questions and many thanks for your help. Regards farrukh |
I have worked with the spring compresors and if thy are the factory tool they are safe. The rear hydro shocks rarely go bad unless they are leaking onto the ground. The accumulator is usually at fault.
