E320 wagon 3rd brake light bulb change
Can anyone tell me how to remove the trim panel that covers the lower interior section of the rear hatch so that I can change the 3rd light bulb(s). I've taken off all the plastic screws around the edges and the piece of plastic trim that runs along the bottom of the hatch. Looks like I might have to remove the inside door handle/lock in order to get the trim panel free. But how does the panel come off after that? Looks like I need to push it up then pull out? Is there an easier way?
Thanks |
IF all the screws are out the panel will slide up (toward the hinges) and then just fall away from the door. There are are two clips molded into the panel which can be a bear to reengage AND are easy to break off. If they break off the panel may rattle unless you pad it with some self adhesive foam (like from Home Depot).

Thanks Intruder,
Followed your guidance and also removed the pull-down strap and the panel just lifted out. Was expecting to need a lot more effort ala-the instrument cluster removal, but she came off easily. Thanks again, W |
It should not have come off that easily - check to ensure the clips are intact (and I think there are 6 of them, but no less than four)
