there are two one that's deep, you'll need long 11" needle nose pliers...and the other is easier and exposed....from what i understand if they're not there it's a good indication that they're completely gone.

If all you see is a large hole with the rod passing through, then your bushings have taken a trip south. The hole should be completely covered by bushing, except where the rod passes through.

The two sets of bushings are the shift rod bushings (what you're looking for) and the shifter bushings. The shifter bushings are located in the shift gate and support the shifter in it's front to rear travel.

on a side note...
NEVER BUY ANY PARTS FROM BEVERLY HILLS MERCEDES BENZ...SHEESH THEY WANT 2.70 PER BUSHING WHERE ALL SURROUNDING DEALERSHIPS ONLY WANT 1.25 PER...
NOT THAT I'M COMPLAINING about a measly 1.45 but sheesh could you imagine what they're raping people for with other parts...

Try the hot water trick to ease installation. The reason it's easier to replace the bushing at the transmission end is because the rod is easily removed and the bushing changed at the workbench.

Anybody have a diagram or a pic. Mine are gone and I just can't visualize exactly where they go or how they fit.

I know this is kind of an old topic, but does this repair apply to W210's as well? Specifically a 1999 E430?
