which side should i glue?

Just received my new hood pad 89 [ 420sel] and it has two differant surfaces. One side is like a sponge and the other side has a thin layer of fabric, which side gets the glue?

I believe the sponge side gets the glue, leaving the finished side out for asthetics. If I'm wrong, someone will be glad to point it out.

i think it's the other way around - the adhesive needs a smooth, non-porous finish to work properly. otherwise, it would just seep into the "sponge."

Has anyone actualy installed one?

Surely someone out there can help me.

Based on whatever is left of my original pad for 201, the smooth side gets the glue. Have similar problem with the pad for my Wag, except it's fibers, not foam.:(

yep, smooth side = glue, waffle side faces down to engine.

I just changed my oil yesterday and I forgot to replace the oil filler cap. Today I spent a couple of hours cleaning the waffle sponge pad.

Smooth side is the glue side. The waffle side faces the engine.

Good to know for when I replace my pad which is MIA. Could not remember what the visible side looked like, but though it should have been "finished".
