Hello everyone,
My car seems to make a slight whining noise from the axle/transmission(?). There is no slipping of the tranny. I've heard about limited slip diff problems in the 16V, could it be related? Your comments are appreciated. Tommy |

Is the whine all of the time or just when in limbo?? Usually the whine will indicate a faulty diff.

Benzmac,
thanks for the reply. The whine is infrequent and occurs at low speeds. The car is of low mileage, so I'm wondering is it due to the lack of use. Should I have the diff. fluid changed?? If a faulty diff, is it expensive to repair? What should I look for when it really needs looking in to. Thanks again |

If the fluid in the diff hasn't been changed lately then go ahead & have it changed(only w/special M.B. fluid). Possibly the noise is comming from dust seal made onto rear wheel bearing(squeal type noise).
If the diff was bad then the noise could be heard all of the time. |
