The SRS Warning Light on my 1989 300E began to flash from time to time on a recent trip out of town. It doesn't stay on. Just appears when driving. Any clues would be appreciated. A friend said the electrical connectors may need cleaning---Can they be cleaned and how? BTW-----belt tensioner was replaced and new alternator.

The most common things that can turn the light on w/out keeping it on is voltage supply & steering wheel contact. SRS systems after 1988 have a diagnostic test connection.

Would the replacement of belt tensioner and the new alternator cause the warning light to appear?

If the alt is not generating the proper amount of current, Yes.

My light also came on, I simply pulled the relays behind the battery cleaned the contacts, pulled the fuse on the fuel relay, cleaned it, put it all back together, light out. Try it, won't cost anything! Good luck,
