83 and 85 240/300 Series. Can I order replacement keys on-line?

I'm not only absent minded, but 40++ now. Also i stopped taking my Ginko.
I lost not just one, but two sets of keys!!

Can I order these on-line without driving 10 miles to the delaership?

Boy do I know what you are going through being over 40++. I did the same . I had my car serviced at a local dealer and they had the SN in their data base. I called them and they ordered a key, sent it by mail and bill my credit card. Just as good as on-line. If you don’t have your car on record you’ll probable need to go in person and prove you are the owner with a registration I would guess..

Most likely you will have to provide proof of ownership (a copy of your title) in order to get a replacement key. I know that is the policy of my local dealer. Seems reasonable if you think about it. They don't want to provide a thief a key to drive off with your car.

Try Rusty at

In the past, he has been able to get keys made. But MBUSA gets picky about it every once in a while--worried about criminals ordering keys. They usually make you go into a dealer, so the dealer can see the car, see the VIN, and see you and make you show ownership. (Not too unreasonable.)

I too am a key loser ,called Merceres of Eugene gave them my vin, address and credit card number got it in the mail from New Jersey in about a week.my guess is that they can cross reference vin.with your name through DMV records........

what prices did you guys pay for keys?

I was just quoted $35 for a replacement for my S-class here in SF.

For that price, I was wondering if I could just as easily get a factory original.

Alec,

I'm pretty sure Smythe in San Jose charges something like $15 for a key cut to VIN.

thanks, I just called them

Before I read your email, I just called them.

For the sdl they wanted $19.

That is a way better deal than what my local locksmith wanted.

thanks
