Cruise Control - 560SEL
Hello Again; I have a 1988 560 SEL. The cruise control is not working properly or sometimes at all. I talked to a mechanic re this and he said something like a stuck valve in some vacuum can??? associated with cruise control. He also suggested that it may be the printed circuit board that controls the cruise control. Any idea where these items are located on this car. I don't have any manuals of any type yet.
Thanks, Timberock |

On the 1988 560SEL, can anyone tell me exactly where the cruise control electronic control unit is?
Thanks, Timberock |

The cruise amp is located to the left of the steering column, bolted to the brake pedal pedistal (up under the dash). The cruise acuator is bolted next to the alternator, and the last item in the chain is the cruise switch which of course is mounted to the steering column (requires column disassembly to replace - not a biggie).

There is joy in the land this Hallowen Eve!
My cruise control is working again. I read all the info re cruise controls and it seemed that the Cruise Control Module is usually the issue. After finding it (thanks to these Forums) a good friend re-soldered all of the big hunks and also did the rivets found on the board. It took him about 45 minutes. Put it back in the car and "Voila" the ultimate road car (MB 560 SEL) has CRUISE!! Nobody has enough money to pay all those speeding fines. It's all gone good! Next is the Antennae, look out!! Thanks to all those who responded. Timberock |
