The left rear of my 16V (the muffler side) sags about 1/2 inch lower than the right side. I also noticed, when carrying some rather heavy gardening items in the trunk (bags of dirt and gravel) that the entire rear suspension sagged quite a bit -- even with the car running.

Do you think that the entire rear suspension sagged because the weight of the Items I was carrying exceded the capacity of the self-leveling system?

Can any components of the system be damaged by overloading the system?

Why might one side sag (visibly) more than the other in an unloaded car? (springs? pressure resevoir? shock?)

Would insufficient hydraulic oil level cause this problem?

How might I go about testing to determine the cause?

Thanks in advance,

John H

If the accumulator is faulty on that side, it could cause this. To check them you will need to go to a mechanic who knows how to check them.
