Type-F

1. Can Type-F ATF be use in a 87 190E and 88 260E?

2. I ordered some Red Line Synthetic ATF but they send me the Synthetic Racing ATF version witch is the Type-F.

3. I’m stationed overseas as some youall might recall, it’s a big hassle to send it back…

Type F would be much too harsh in shifting

in a transmission designed for any of the Dexron/Mercon evolutions from Type A -- Type F did not use any of the friction modifier additives (whale oil in the Type A days) which the General Motors transmissions needed. See if you can sell it to an Englishman with a classic SAAB 900 (pre-1993) and Borg-Warner type 37 automatic; they were about the last cars to use Type F, although there may be a quite a few even older Jaguars, etc. in England with Borg-Warner type 35 boxes, and also old Volvoes and others, even some 3 speed Mercedes from the '50s (I've got a former student who recently inherited a '57 300D which I think has a Borg-Warner, but he's here in Virginia).

You're right can't use Type F

1. You have hit it on the nose the following is what Red Line themselves sent me:

The Racing ATF and other ATF's are compatible, they will mix without a problem.
The Racing ATF is a Type F fluid and doesn't contain the friction modifiers that a Dexron fluid contains so will result in a firmer harder shift in your transmission. This resulting change in shift feel may not be acceptable in your vehicle so I would recommend exchanging it.

Regards,
Red Line Oil

2. Wow Fimum Fit, are you a chemist and or an oil expert?

Thai GI, I tried replying to your e-mail but Hoymail sent me an error message saying your address was "unknown, and undeliverable". Hotmail has been very unreliable lately. I see you got your answer though. In my reply I list every ATF listed from the "approved list". Anyone else having a problem with Hotmail lately?

I'm just a professor of Latin and Greek literature, BUT

I've been reading the monthly technical article in _Hot Rod_ magazine faithfully since 1957. Almost everything I know about chemistry and physics I learned there.

Sorry for the delayed response -- events surrounding my wife's 55th birthday and our 35th wedding anniversary kept me occupied for a few days.

understand

1. Congratulations! Wow two special days. With a name like “Fimum Fit” you probably did good and took care your business.

2. Don’t worry, most of us in these forums know that people have lives and their job is not there just sitting at the computer answering posts. I wish more people understand and shouldn’t expect more.

3. On the other hand, sometimes when I’m helping someone it’s a high I get. I find myself in the middle of the night looking through my manuals and or notes, reviewing tape footage of repairs I’ve done, even going out side to look at my cars…

I highly recommend OG Racing

1. Well the company that I’d brought the AFT from was willing to exchange it. Also not only that, they credited me for the shipping after I’d sent the wrong stuff back! Great bunch of folks to do business with and for the east coast I think they got the best prices for Redline products.

2. The people I’m talking about is OG Racing located in Manassas VA http://www.ogracing.com/ . I highly recommend them if youall are in the area go by and check them out…
