I recently heard something about a redesigned water pump for the W140 S class. If so can it be retrofitted to a '94 140 or will it only fit the newer models?

I believe it can bt fitted in all W140 model. I have my suspension(yes, suspension, front/rear)components changed in 1994 UNDER warranty because MB said '92s has design flaw!!?? If the whole suspension(maybe this is why I never know '92s' steering has a shimmy feel) from newer W140 can be fit in my car, it should have no problem fit water pump in it. However, as someone has mention already, newer isn't always better.

P.S. With the new suspension from newer W140s, my car seems to ride a bit lower than 1992s. About 1 1/2 - 2 cm lower....

The 140 chasis had the problem with the lower control arm bushings up to 94 or 95. I have seen many of them fail. This is not a dangerous problem, but is annoying when you can't get the car to stop shaking.

TO AKRY!!!!

The 140 chassis had many different engine options offered over the years. Please be specific about which engine you are asking about.

Fortunately, there is nothing wrong with the suspension on my car!!! I was only asking about the redesigned water pump for the S500 model series. I have heard that it was introduced in late 95 and since mine is a 94 I was wondering if it worked better and, if so, is it retrofittable?

As far as I know this (new) waterpump you have heard about is for the 603 engine.
You have a 119 engine. I do not recall that there has been any changes made to this pump.
What is your concern that brought this subject up?
I am happy that your suspension is ok. I can not for the life of me understand what that had to do with your question.

I was perusing David C. Allen's 140 chassis web page and in it was a description and pictures comparing the new and old water pumps. There is also an explanation on when the pump was introduced. You can find the page here: http://www.primenet.com/~davida/wp_up.htm

Updating your water pump? If it is not broken, don't fix it. Also, the suggested interval for replacing the coolant is every three years.
