Can I recharge the dead battery from my E320 -'95

Hi,
If battery is dead, can it be recharged under some conditions, eg. say the cause of death was that I left the headlights on?
Car is 1995 E320 and battery is MB brand.
Thanks
farrukh

Funny you should ask that. My car just stranded me Friday night -culprit was a dead/bad battery (> 4years old). I think you can recharge by jumping the car and then let the altenator do the rest. Read the owners manual for the correct conection sequnce for the cables first.

To answer your question - there should not be any problem if you hook a charger up to it, set it on the lower setting and let it charge overnight.

ans. most probably depends on a number of factors

>if there is a dead cell- it won't hold sufficient capacity
>if fluids are sufficient % (use hydrometer test)

doesn't hurt to try

hope this helps

can bad batteries be resuscitated?

Does "de-sulfation" actually work? Anybody have any experience with the little trickle chargers that are touted to revive dead batteries.

"A battery conditioner uses a sweep pulse technology that dissolves sulfation in lead-acid batteries to extend battery life and increase battery performance," is the claim.

You can trickle charge the battery and get a bit more service.

Being a four year old battery though, I would consider eventual replacement. If there is any problem with the battery (dead cell, etc.), your alternator will have to work harder...
