Any recommendations for one of these. MBNA offers their own, but is is more limited than many others, costs a lot more, and requires that you have repairs done only at MB dealers (and I'd like the option of going elsewhere).

Warrantech is the best one I am aware of. I have owned 2 cars that were covered by them and have been pleased. You don't have to go to a dealer for service.

MAKE SURE to buy it BEFORE your factory warranty runs out.

Warrantech is an administrator but doesn't sell the policies directly. Do you know where one can purchase these?

Any good indepenent auto sales lot should have them. If you can't find it call e-mail me and I'll help. You can find me on the links page.

Here's the problem. Warrantech is an extended warranty administrator. The do the administration for a number of companies. There is also another party, the actual insurance company. I.e., there is a seller, an administrator and an insurer.I don't care about the seller so much as the insurer's policies and how the administrator interprets them. Warrantech may be given different policies by different insurers, so the quality of the warranty is not really completely under Warrantech's hands. I have found warranties with the same insurer, but different sellers and/or administrators and therefore different policies and coverage.

How does one sort out this mess?

Warrantygold comment to Jeff
Last year I requested a quote from them for a 95 c280. They can fax/send you a copy of the service contract to preview.
EDITED 30-July-99 The inception date depends on whether the car is still on factory warranty or not.
Want to look up an insurer? www.ambest.com

I plan to resume shopping for an extended warranty and will contact the warrantech folks as well.
It takes time and alot of deciphering!

You might check out "Warranty Direct" too. They have several options and seemed the least costly of any I found. And if you call them, you'll be amazed at how you can negotiate the final price. Good luck.
