What Causes White Vapor in Cold Temperatures?
Well, Just what was in the subject. I've noticed white smoke or vapor coming out of my tailpipe. I only happens when it's cold (about 55F). I just had the stem seals replaced. Hope it's not related! Whats goin on?

Water vapour
The combustion process produces water. The white stuff is partially condensed water vapour. When the exhaust system is hot, the water vapour stays as a colourless gas.

I thought it was
When the exhaust cools water vapor (humidity?) condenses and as it heats up it boils off.

Ever seen vapour trails from a jet aircraft at high altitude? Exactly the same thing, only the condensation cloud remains due to the low temperature of the air up there.
