w124 euro headlight conversion
Have read with great interest the conversion to euro headlights, but there are so many threads, can someone help me narrow the search with some keywords? For a 1991 300CE, is the conversion "plug and play"? i.e. no relays and rewiring, just change out the one for the other. Everyone happy with quality of the Tyco or Depo units?
Thanks, glenmore 1991 300CE |

the Euro connector is different from the North American one, so you will have to convert this part. It's not a big deal though - you only have to open up the old connector and transfer the pins to the new connector.
the key though is where each pin should go on the Euro connector. You should be able to find something on this site on the pin mappings. i'm sure you will like the new lights ... |

I purhcased a set of the Depo lights off of Ebay for my '95 E420 about 6 months ago (paid around $275). It took about an hour with a volt meter to get the pin mappings right (very tedious). Had I known about this site at the time I could have saved myself alot of trouble!
As for the Depo lights themselves; the OEM lights had a higher quality feel and look - especially on the inside. I replaced the original lights because one had cracked lens from a rock chip. The Depo lights work fine, no leaks, etc. Given the choice, I'd probably pick a set of original Euro OEM lights instead - or possibly E500 lights. |

Your new lights should have come with new sockets. Here's what you are looking for to install them.
Just follow the instruction, the job should go very easy. - old pin 2 (brown) goes into new pin socket 2 - old pin 4 (white) goes into new pin socket 4 - old pin3 (yellow) goes into new pin socket 5 - old pin 1 (green) goes into new pin socket 6 (From Barrie) JackD |

Ditto Jackd
I bought mine from Bekkers and they included an adapter. Takes all of 2 seconds to snap one end onto the Euro plug and the other into the US plug. That's it.

My DEPO's arrived today, after a somewhat lengthy delay (thank you West Coast Stevedores ). OH well, they were stuck on a boat here for a few extra days, it happens. Went to the dealer and picked up a pair of 6 pin plugs, covers and 2 sockets for laying in the wiring for city lights. Grand total cost $7.20.
The only "rewiring" you'll need to do is opening the cover of the 4 pin plug and moving the sockets to the postions previously listed. All I did tonight was solder the jumper wires to the sockets for pin 3 (of the new 6 pin plugs), tomorrow after work I'll probably mount and wire the units. Will retain the US wipers in the fashion of LGB-BENZ, at least until I can "stumble" across some euro wiper motors.
