I`m changing my oil this weekend. As a beginner DIY guy, especially with diesels, I was wondering if there`s a way to minimize the oil starvation that occurs for the first few seconds after oil change. Would pouring about 1/2 - 1 litre of oil into the line that feeds the engine from the filter do the trick. Or does that have some unintended consequences?

I've heard about, and tried, pouring the last quart or so directly into the oil filter housing before putting the cover on (for upright oil canisters of course).

Seemed to work ok. Though I can't say that I heard a difference on start-up, perhaps wear-wise, it was a good move. You could try this.
