vacuum pump
When replacing the vacuum pump in my OM606 engine how do I position the crankshaft to ensure the pump's eccentric drive cam is at the bottom of it's stroke . That is with least pressure on the pump during the process. The springs behind these diaphragms are very strong and I don’t want to damage anything. TIA Lindsay.

If it is too hard to get the bolts started, you could put in a longer bolt with a nut on it and use the nut to clamp down a side at the time unitl you get all of the bolts started.
