1973 450 SEL Clean Motor Oil Question
Hi~
I just changed my motor oil about a week ago. I put in the correct filter and so on. This may sound strange but is the oil supposed to be "dunkel blonde" even after 400 miles? It seems like every other make I've had the oil turns into the black oil off of the x-files in 100 miles. I am worried if I have poor circulation. My oil pressure is okay and the oil pan has no severe dents. The oil filter was installed correctly too. Am I being over cautious? Thanks! |

A good tight engine running properly won't carbon up the oil in a hurry. I've seen cars with several thousand miles on them with only slightly dark oil. It only means the oil is holding up nicely and not collecting carbon, so the engine is running properly.
The oil I drained out of the 280 SE (years old!) was only dark, not black. Peter
