Removing airbag equipped steering wheel
How do I remove an airbag steering wheel on my '93 W140? It isn't on straight and I want to fix it. I don't want to fire the airbag - any tips?

How did the wheel wind up being off-center?

You...
Disconnect the battery, first, always!

If you need to have the steering wheel straightened, then have a alignment shop adjust your tie rods, don't mess with the wheel as it was centered from the factory.
But if you do need to remove the wheel, disconnect the battery first, use a T30 torx to remove the two bolts that hold the air bag in place, remove the plug wire on the back of the air bag, then using a 10 mm hex socket and very large breaker bar, remove the hex nut, pull the wheel and re-align. Better instructions are available on my web site. |
