EXCELLENT
fintailfan
way to go! you're very welcome! the wipers most usually are lost in the upgrade. if you [try to] use the u.s. wipers it looks really stupid and doesn't wipe nearly enough. some people have done this. also you will need to get "blank"/ solid-no holes filler plates. these are pieces below light assembly where present wiper arm sticks out. it doesn't look good having the holes staring at you. tom hansen at caliber motors m.b.wholesale parts 1.800.252.6877 california. call phil at parts shop here. get the best price. they may have to get part number for one from 260e. they shouldn't be more than 7.00 10.00 each. they will have to be painted to match. if you want to have [effective & authentic] wipers you can order the stuff for a '94 or'95 e320 or e420. motors, arms, blades, filler plates. it isn't cheap. if you sell your old lights on e-bay don't sell the wipers/motors with them. you can sell them separately. did you get clear turn signal covers? btw what color is the wagon? e-mail still messed up use netscape one. ALSO when they arrive, CAREFULLY[!!!] remove lense [slowly] and clean the INSIDE of the glass very good. they have some kind of film or "gook" on them. peter

Here is what the US wiper looks like with the euro lens
The only modification it took was to use a legnth of perforated strapping mounted to the attachment points of the light bucket, which allowed the wiper motor to be offset from the euro hole alignment. Cost about $4 for a 4 foot length of strapping. The strap will suffice until I can locate a set of euro motor brackets. Granted, the wiper doesn't cover the entire lens, but covers the important part.

www.capitolwest.com sells a "w126" wiper adapter kit for around $20.00, i think. it would give you the full effect. fintail, if you loose the wipers [for awhile?] what you GAIN is well worth it. there are places and members in europe who might be able to help with motors. as mike mentioned, dot ones do NOT fit the slot under euros. peter

Peter,
Unfortunately, they only sell the adapter with their lights. Can't purchase it separately. In studying the assemblies closely, I believe all that is needed are the euro wiper brackets. The motors mount to the bracket with a single 17mm nut. Put the left motor on the right mount and vice versa for the other side, add a set of euro arms and your in business. Might also require a pair of fill panels, which would have to be drilled at the proper location as the wiper shaft on euros is in a slightly different location. Easy DIY job.

I called Paul at Puma today and he sold me a pair of those fill panels to fit the Euro wiper hole. They are primed black, which is the color of my wagon, so that should work out well. As for mounting the wipers, I think I'll follow Mike's idea and use the perforated strap, since new Euro motors, arms, and blades will likely be too steep for my budget right now. I would like to keep the wipers if I can - not that I think they really do much, but I want to keep the car looking as orginal as possible.
I'll post a picture of my wagon with its new Euro Lights soon after I install them, which should be in a couple of weeks. I'm sticking with the amber side markers for now, since the 500e euro's didn't come with new clear side markers, (or any for that matter). If I have any install questions, I know where to come for answers, but since you all have given me such great informative links and leads to past posts, I should be okay. Later, Bob. |
