water pump
 
We have a 300 sl and wanted to know about how long it should actually take a certified mechanic to install a new water pump? and how much should would be a proper amount to pay?

Labor time is around 4 hours +/- 1/2 hour. Hourly rates differ depending on where you are. In my neck of the woods the going rate at a dealer would be around $80/hr. Remember one thing though. Certified mechanic and MB tech can make a difference. Experience counts! I can do that job in two hours blindfolded but someone with less experience ( but by no means a lesser mechanic ) may take much longer. You get what you pay for. Good luck

thank you. that helps a lot. as the garage i WAS working with decided to fix my car without authorization or giving me an estimate, and held my car hostage as they said 'the work is already done so you need to pay' .....
