Unhappy Need alarm system help

Looking for someone who has run across these weird symptoms and could possibly steer me in a direction of repair.

Car: 1993 400E
Symptom: While locking car in drivers door, holding the key longer makes windows go DOWN, unlocking they go UP!
When unlocking, have to do it a few times for the alarm to disarm.
The alarm lite on the dash only comes on when unlocking and never when locked.

Would very much like to have system working as it should.
Help,
Tobias MB

Is it the control unit?

Trying to figure if it actually is one of the lock assemblies or if the control unit itself is bad. Have to reply to myself to get this back 'up front' again. Has anyone had a defective alarm control unit and if so, what were the characteristics of it?
What makes the windows operate backwards of what they are supposed to do?
Is it normal for the alarm armed LED on the dash to not come on after locking?

Anyone out there know anything about alarm systems...OE??

Thank you...
