Timing chain, valve guides and seals

I looked through the archives and really couldn't find a definitive answer...so here I am! What are the chances of a DIYer with lots of mechanical intuition, not experience, but intuition, replacing the timing chain, guide rails, etc, and valve guides and seals successfully? I do have factory service manuals on the way. Other than the valve spring compressor, are there any special tools needed?

the chain guide for a 117 mill is a helpful tool and you'll have to get a pin puller. (or make one if your handy with a welder and bench grinder)

Hi,

You might note that valve seals can be replaced without removing the head and you might find that valve guides are unnecessary.

Basicly the cylinder is pressurized with shop air and the valve spring compressed and keeper removed. the valve is held in place while the seal is replaced.

If interested write me and I'll tell you more.

regards
