will this fit a 86 300SDL? it says 126 mercedes in the description but arent 85's 123's?

In 82 or 83 Benz changed the hood saftey release design. Make sure that grille is 84 or later by part number, otherwise it'll fit a sedan.

Maybe you do not need to change the whole grill
 

If your chrome sorrounding frame is in good shape, consider doing what I did on my 560SEL - replace the grey plastic grid and the vertical and horizontal chrome strips - all available separately at very low cost. You will have to trim the chrome strips to length, but it's easy to dismantle arnd reassemble the grille.

thats the thing though, my chrome is bent and the plastic is held on with zip ties, So i have been looking for the entire assembly
