Window Switches

I have a 1987 SL and the graphics on the window and harzard switches have faded so I now have ugly while splotches on otherwise perfectly functional switches. Asside from replacing them, is there any other way to get rid of these splotches and get the switch back to black?

window switches

Hi -- I have an 86 560sl with a similar problem -- black missing from window switches-- did you ever find a solution -- do you know if you can pull the switches out without taking the wood cover off? thanks in advance.

window switch replacement

I ordered new switches and replaced them -- it was rather simple. When you push the window button a slot appears on the part of the button that rises, you can pry the switch up by alternatively prying both sides of the switch (pushing the button and prying on the side that rises) unitl the switch rises from the console. The switches then simply separate from the wiring harness and the new switch is put in place and pressed into the console.

Simple elegant repair -- well thought out engineering.
