I have a 1988 190E 2.3. The A/C-Heater blower control slide is stuck in the full speed position. That's OK for the Kansas summer heat, but before winter hits I'd like to have the ability to slow the fan down. I can get the part relatively inexpensively but the manual I have does not give any detail as to how to get at/remove/replace the swunit. Any suggestions would be helpful. I have gotten as far as being able to see the top of it by removing the middle vents, but I can't seem to determine how to get the middle console out.

There are two bolts in the top of the center console under the vents and there are two more behind the ash tray.

Remove the center vents. Two screws go down into the center housing (remove)Open ashtray and remove the ash tray. remove the two screws that hold ashtray housing in place. once removed there are two screws going straight down into the lower center counsol, remove these. Now the complete housing can be gentely rotated out. The knob on the switch pulls off, sometimes it is stuborn. The wood trim then is removed. It has to be flexed in the center to remove. Very delicate work. Take your time, use good lighting and dont force it. Now you can see the screws that hold the switch in place. Your 1/2 way done.
Good Luck and have fun.
