During a cold start the timing chain is noisy and then after 2-3 seconds quiets down. Is the tensioner controlled by oil pressure? Is replacement needed? Car has 83,000 miles. Religious 3000 mile oil changes with Redline synthetic. What is expected service life of timing chain? Thanks for response, Lou

There are several items that could cause this type noise. Oil bleed off from the timing chain tensioner is serious. Don't wait! chain replacement can be costly.

If the chain jumps, the motor will have to come apart! Get it done now. There is an updated check valve that mey have to be installed in the oil filter housing as well.

and whle your valve covers are removed, have the technician check the plastic/rubber cam oilers for tightness. They fit under the camshaft towers, inexpensive and don't take long to put in... Use correct torque on these bolts also!
