MB ATF vs. others (?)
Hello,
My local european parts shop carries on the shelf, Mercedes Benz-branded ATF in individual quarts. Its fairly spendy though, at 4.50/qt (!).. ,my question is.. How does this fluid compare to other brands, and is the MB synthetic? I'll certainly buy the MB Fluid if its probably the best to use in my car. (92 300e 2.6).. What do you think?? - any opinions on the fluid? Thanks! -Miles |
The MB ATF fluid is probably full synthetic and is for the new cars. Your car can use regualr ATF or you can buy Mobil 1 ATF. There are about 13 "approved" ATFs, for use in Mercedes. Personally, I put in Mobil 1 ATF and Mobil 1 gear oil for the rear diff. I figure since these fluids only get changed every 30K, I figured what the hell.

I bought this (Febi Bilstein) transmission for 8.31/qt. Does not say anywhere on the bottle if its synthetic but I added it anyway. Not sure what's the difference between this and any other brand except the price. Any opinions?

Miles, I bet your $4.50 price is for MB non-synth. I heard the MB synth is about $12 qrt. Maybe someone can state exactly the $.
For the $4.50 x 7 or 8 quarts I would put the MB fluid in it. Cheep insurance. |
Redline since 95?
1. I’ve been using Redline ATF @ about $7/qt since 1995.
2. Wow, I didn’t know that MB was that cheap… Thai GI sends… |
once i needed to add ATF, went to the local MB dealership
expecting to buy an MB branded fluid just like the MB steering fluid ($12). was surprised to see Quaker State Dextron III at $4 bucks and change! half that price at any auto supply shop. |
