For the 4th time in 5 weeks the car went back to the dealership. First it was because the MAS sensor died and i needed new rotors, a week later the indicator said "Low Batt. Charge" so the dealership installed a new alternator in, a few days later the indicator lit up again and its the same problem so they put in another alternator for free, and a week later which is today the same problem occured agian!!! What is happening to the car??? We might as well sell the car and get a Lexus or something...

Does anybody here know what's happening? thanks!

It's a 96 model. Well.. if this is going to happen over and over again, we might as well sell it. It's been giving us too much trouble. But its never going to happen that we're going to get a Lexus over an MB...:p

Very true... nothing compares to an MB!!! But it's just one of those days where you're so sick of it that it makes you want to take the other road. I just want my MB back the way it use too.

BTW, this is the first time we've had trouble with MB's, we had 2 W124's one E230 and one E320(this was in Australia, cause U.S has no E230's) both cars ran fine even until the day we sold it.
Right now we have an E320 in the U.S and an E220 back home, and the E220 is running fine, unlike the W210...

I'd look hard at the charging harness and IC.

Sorry to hear about your problems. Unfortunatly, these cars do have lots of parts that seem to expire around the 90-100k mile mark (please tell me yours has at least that many miles). I think in spite of the repairs the car is a great value.

I just replaced my own air mass sensor ($250 from MercedesShop.com). While the broken one was in the car the wildly fluctuatng idle caused the "low batt" warning but I have not had any further electrical problems. I know it's obvious but how old is your battery? I'm sure the dealer would've checked it before installing the SECOND alternator. If they are "load testing" it they may have killed it. (I replaced mine with an Optima which cost about the same as the MB battery but is lighter and has superior technology). At least they are standing behind their work by replacing the faulty alternator.

You can save a WHOLE lot of money by searching this board to diagnose the problem and then ordering parts from PartsShop or Fastlane. the service is nothing short of perfect in my experience.

Yeah, the car has just reached the 90k mark. The mass sensor broke and the engine idle fluctuated up and down wildly. So after they changed that the alternator got replaced a week later... until now the car has been giving us trouble.
