How To Tighten Up 140 Wood Door Trim

I have some of the wood door trim on a 140 series car that is a little loose and rattles on a rough road. How would one go about tightening it up?

If the trim is secured like it is on the 124, you have to remove the door panel to tighten the screws.

When you remove the panel, you'll see 4 or 5 screws that hold the trim on. Buy some small locking washers (poor design imo) and tighten them back up.

I've had to tighten all the wood trim panels on every door because those damn screws came loose.

Good luck :D

my W126 is the same way. Never had any come loose though. Also, be careful if you take the door apart, you may end up with more rattles than just the wood when your done. Perhaps a better fix would be to wedge some sort of foam that couldn't be seen, until something else went aryi(window regulator etc). Just a thought,

Loose wood trim is a common occurence on 140's. Before you try to remove the door panels though, make sure you read the work instructions carefully! The wood trim at the seat switch requires a special tool, commonly referred to as a butterknife ( when you see one you'll see why ). It's easy to remove but you need to have a feel for it. Other than that it's a straight forward job. Good luck
