trunk lid hinge in a 201
 

I can't believe it! I loaded 4 tires from TireRack into my 190 D and tried (gently) to close the trunk lid. When I just STARTED applying pressure,the weld on a trunk lid hinge snapped near the lid. I fixed that temporarily with two screws, but the lid does not align perfectly with the quarterpanel, and it's getting worse. I cannot fix the weld because the hinge is made of aluminium, and i was told that the hinge is a dealer item. By the wa7y, cannot find anybody who can weld aluminium.

Two questions - did this happened to anybody else? and, how do I even start removing the hinge?
