1986-190 E: Thermostat and water pump
I am replacing my water pump but just noticed that the three hole bracket that holds the fan clutch is not on the after-market water pump I purchased in Ft. Worth.
Is it OK to leave the clutch fan off??? Will my motor heat up too much during idle? If this clutch fan bracket cannot be taken off the old water pump and attached/welded on to the new, I would have the old water pump rebuilt here in Mexico. Does that sound reasonable? And a second question: Can I leave the thermostat off until I order a new one? The mechanic says the motor will just stay cold longer on starting. The mechanic just noticed the two broken brackets inside. I won't be going to the U.S. until Dec. to any pick up shipped parts if required. Any advice? Thanks in advance, Gregorio Monterrey, Mexico ___________________ 1986 190E 2.3 1960 190B |

YOU do need the fan clutch or the engine can overheat.
In cooler weather a thermostat is needed to bring the engine upto operating temp..

Thanks! I insisted that they try to take the ringed bracket off the old water pump and they did this afternoon.
IŽll order the $17. thermostat ASAP and install it myself per instruction of another post. Gregorio ____________________ 1986 190E 2.3 1960 190B |
