Hi All

I am buying a 300DT and cannot findout when the timing chain should be replaced?

Over the years, I have read *a lot* on this subject - opinions seem to run the range of something like: around 100,000mi. to "I'm over 300,000mi. and I'm not planning on doing a thing until the slack is greater than 5-6 degrees."

For my two 300CD-Ts, I've done it at 125,000mi. Peace of mind in my opinion. You'll probably get plenty of others.

Good luck-

Joey,

Diesel timing chains can last any given amount of time. I would have the chain checked pre-purchase and determine if replacement is necessary. On both of my diesels, I am still going on the original timing chains. The 240D at 300K and my 300SD at 170K. As a rule of thumb, diesel timing chains tend to last much longer than gasoline engine chains. Hope this helps!
