Gas Pedal "dead pedal" Specifications

On my 1995 C280, the gas pedal seems generally quite normal. However, there is about 1/2 inch (est. ?) after pushing the pedal until the time that it actually gives gas. The only qualm I have with this is that it often makes the initial acceleration quite jerky.
I think that this might be just the way the car was designed.
I know that later model Mercedes with the 5 spd auto (722.4) have an even, yet much lighter feeling gas pedal.

My question:
Is that small amt (>10% of total throttle movement) of 'dead pedal' normal? Or is there an adjustment for this? Maybe the linkage just needs lubing?

1995 C280, 130k miles.

Thanks!

Check the throttle cable adjustment. There is an adjustment wheel at the engine end of the cable. I took all but a tiny bit of the slack out of the cable on our 1995 C280 recently and it is nice and responsive now.
